Is Your Vacation More Stressful Than Staying Home?
Travel: Whether it’s for work or fun (or both!), it always takes a lot of prep and effort.
That goes beyond packing a suitcase and making sure you can get to the airport. For a home owner, there’s a whole list of to-dos to check off before we can hit the road.
A recent poll of 2,000 American home owners discovered just what demands our time and energy before we can get away from it all. Sure, some is what you’d expect, packing, last-minute shopping, making sure the fridge is cleaned out. But what really takes our attention is the long list of the time-consuming tasks that aren’t necessary. At least not for a home owner with a smart home automation platform.
According to the survey, the average American home owner has six things they have to do before they leave. The top three are packing, last-minute shopping, and cleaning the house. But check this out:
50% make sure someone has a key to the house in case of an emergency.
38% unplug appliances.
28% set the lights on a timer.
19% program the home alarm.
With an automated smart home platform like our clients enjoy with Savant don’t have to worry about these items. Not only are things pre-set, they’re adjustable while the home owner is away – no matter where in the world they are, or how long they’re gone. They can order a package for delivery and when it arrives, open the door for the delivery and make sure it’s shut and secure after. The lights are not only set on a timer; they can modify daily to mimic at-home activity. The home alarm is always in effect, the power sources can be controlled, and detectors for unexpected emergencies like a burst water pipe are monitoring the property 24/7. All this means our clients have more time and energy to actually prepare for the trip itself, knowing they’ll have real-time access to their home no matter where they are in the world. This kind of security means more peace of mind, which is the ultimate goal.
And peace of mind – according to the survey – is one thing a lot of home owners lack when they go on vacation.
The poll found that people will check twice, on average, to make sure the front door is locked. And still – 22% of people will turn the car around and go back home for something they forgot or to do one last look around. 8% of those surveyed said they have gotten home from a trip to find the front door was unlocked. And during the trip, many worry about what’s happening at home – 33% worry about the state of things at home, and 19% worry that mail or packages have been stolen.
This kind of worry is unnecessary, and at Jackson Hole A/V, we consider it a great privilege to support our clients' peace and security in their homes, whether they’re relaxing in their private home cinema or vacationing abroad.
