Tips From The Top

  • Imagine Your Dream Home Cinema

Is it an elegant, ornate interior recalling the opulence of the 1920s? Or an outdoor theater lit with starlight above? Maybe it’s an intimate affair with your favorite plush couches, just for a select few of your closest friends. Maybe your tastes run the other extreme – the cutting-edge technology of The Sphere in Las Vegas, with lights, sound, and total sensory immersion?

Whatever your tastes, private home theaters are in high demand – and audio video technology experts are rising to meet that demand.

Our clients have always wanted the autonomy and privacy of their own personal home cinemas, even before the pandemic. Their home theaters thrive on the high quality of professional grade screens from manufacturers like Stewart Filmscreen and the cutting-edge technology of immersive sound.

Now, a recent survey reports that demand for private home cinema is on the rise, with some interesting trends.

Immersive sound opportunities (seriously, you need to experience this) are inspiring home owners to take advantage of the incredible quality and complexity of film audio available in their own homes. A diversity of sources (like architectural speakers), plus loudspeakers and subwoofers, means you can actually hear the depth and rich variety in the filmmaker’s audio. In other words, you can totally lose yourself in the sound. Among integrators who took the survey, 88% reported that their new projects last year featured immersive audio – more than ever before.

Visually, cinemas use both large flat screens or projection systems. Ultra short throw and brighter projectors work well in a variety of settings, but the all-out projection system excels in that dedicated cinema space.

Home owners are taking advantage of two amenities that make all the difference: integrating lighting and remotes and touch panels. Integrated lighting complements those important moments before and after the film, while providing the ideal ambience during the showing. And with a remote or touch panel, complex home cinemas don’t have to be complex to use: a single app can do everything.

Choosing your own seating is one of the perks for the home cinema, with everything from premium professional seating on risers to recliners to love seats and sofas. About half of the new cinemas include seven or more seats.

And while we’re talking home cinemas, don’t forget about your outdoor home theater.
