3 Keys to Smarter Bathrooms
It’s a great time of year to make major smart upgrades to one of the most-used rooms in your home: the bathroom.
For our clients who travel in these winter months, this can be an ideal time to schedule renovations. They come home to some much-needed smart upgrades that are even better than the spa or ski resort they’ve just come from. Other clients really enjoy spending more time in their homes during the winter season. They want to liven up their daily spaces, making them the ideal place to relax and rejuvenate. For all our clients, these smart systems in the bath improve the efficiency, energy use, and comfort of their favorite rooms. Here are three key reasons why:
Better Health
Smart lighting systems and smart mirrors can incorporate circadian lighting to support home owners throughout the day. Imagine standing in front of your bathroom mirror every morning and getting a boost from lighting that actually mimics your body’s most basic need for light when you first wake up. In the same way, the evening bathroom light can reflect your body’s natural need to relax and wind down just before you go to sleep. Tunable lighting from home automation systems such as Savant and Lutron can adjust to you and your family’s schedules throughout the day, to better promote a healthy circadian rhythm, which results in better mental and physical well-being.
Better Energy Use
Smart faucets can turn off and on automatically, saving water and energy. Motion detectors will make sure the lights are off when no one is in the room (a big energy saver in families with kids). Climate control and window shading can reduce energy use when no one is home, or when outside natural light can be used to generate heat or kept out to decrease cooling costs in the summer.
Better Comfort
Kohler has introduced an array of smart new products for the bath. Home owners can also use Kohler Konnect to preset bath and shower water for the precise temperature, pressure, and duration. Kohler has also added aromatherapy with its new Sprig Wellness line, using a device to infuse the air with a calming fragrance for a spa atmosphere. Kohler’s new Numi 2.0 toilet has a lid that automatically opens and closes and a self-cleaning wand. And it just introduced the Stillness Bath, with experiences of light, sound, and aroma in an ergonomically shaped bathtub with an infinity waterscape over the edges of the bath.
