Perfect sound - inside and out
As “audiophiles,” we pay close attention to the latest trends and technology in whole home audio systems.
Sound technology and design is quickly advancing for both indoor and outdoor spaces. And for those of us taking advantage of the short summer months (is that all of us?), we’re super excited about the sound possibilities for our growing outdoor living spaces.
Okay, first, we want to talk to our fellow audiophiles. (And those that love them.) Because we are definitely inspired by how the use of subwoofers is evolving to offer optimum sound throughout the entire space.
First, we want to talk about base. As our fellow audiophiles know – and those who love us know because we probably talk about it ad nauseum – base=s is critical to good sound. We really can’t listen to music, or home theater sound, without bass. Bass gives sound the impact to fill the space with sound. Subwoofers are the key equipment that makes bass possible. Subwoofers in the zone are essential, and research is showing that at least two subwoofers placed equally but opposite in a room equalizes bass throughout the whole space and eliminates the dead zones.
Many more clients are recognizing the need for subwoofers and bass. The growth of home theaters is also driving the need for better range of bass. Manufacturers are responding. We’re seeing a lot more in-wall opportunity for subwoofers, for example. Savant makes a top shelf line of architectural subwoofers that are aesthetically elite and offer a depth and richness of sound. Savant also offers acoustical tools to help us with the best acoustical placement.
And now, there’s excellent room modelling tools available that we use to put in the dimensions and particulars of our clients’ spaces to devise the most ideal placement of subwoofers. We use these room models to help our clients make the best informed decisions about what’s best for their sound needs – and the results are outstanding.
As the backyard has become the new living room, smart home owners are asking for better control and range of sound options outside. Savant said recently that outdoor sound is the biggest growing category the home automation company sees. Clients want optimal sound for all the ways they use their outdoor living space, whether it’s entertaining or movies, cooking and dining, or walking through the garden. We see more products and design development that allows clients to get the sound they want for all these uses. Because the outside space doesn’t have the boundary restrictions that an indoor space has, we can place the right number of speakers and subwoofers to get sound in literally every area. Outdoor tiling and walls can include speakers and subwoofers, in addition to landscaping sound. Even when homes are closer together, we can place speakers and subwoofers so that the home owner can perfectly manage their sound. They can get the excellent quality they want at a lower volume, and keep those neighborly relations in top form.
