More independent home energy use
More of our clients want home technology that will improve their energy savings. And fortunately, our favorite products are delivering top-shelf options.
Our clients are a lot like the rest of the nation, according to recent research. The smart home research firm Park Associates recently released results that show how both consumers and builders are wanting to increase energy savings and reduce their reliance on the grid. Fortunately, smart home tech makes this possible.
In a survey of consumers about the energy management interests and behaviors over the last three years, Parks Associates found a 10% increase in interest related to saving energy, especially in the “extreme measures” category – installing rooftop solar panels, enterprise-grade energy storage, and uninterruptible power supplies/backup power and control systems.
84% of consumers are interested in taking “mindful actions,” such as adjusting thermostats, switching to LEDs and turning off lights when rooms aren’t in use. 33% of consumers want to make minor home improvements that will reduce their home’s energy consumption, like buying more energy-efficient appliances or HVAC systems.
Something we’ve observed with our clients – and that Parks Associates also reports – is that increased home energy usage during the pandemic is homeowners’ interest in energy management.
These findings, according to the research group, all point to a greater reliance on smart home tech for improved energy management, even beyond the pandemic. According to Patrice Samuels, senior analyst at Parks Associates, “By incorporating smart thermostats, smart lighting, and smart plugs into energy management solutions, utilities can offer a comprehensive digital strategy to their customers that improves adoption of their energy management programs and generates additional revenue.”
For us as integrators, we can unite a client’s home automated systems, enabling compatibility and giving our clients the ability to easily adjust or use preprogrammed settings for real energy management, while reducing reliance on the power grid.
One of our popular total home automation companies, Savant, has for years supported home owners’ energy management and control with preprogrammed settings. When they acquired Racepoint Energy (now Savant Power), they gave clients the ability to use energy modes along with intelligent power controls that solved two major problems. First, it evolved the smart electrical panel to monitor in real-time and revenue all the energy in a home, and then control that use in real-time. Second, it introduces a “microgrid,” which can manage both the energy loads and multiple sources of power, whether they are battery, solar, wind, or standard of electricity. These two developments mean better energy monitoring, use, and control for the homeowner, all within the streamlined technology Savant offers. It makes the home owner’s life better and less complicated – which is good for everyone.
