Why whole home audio could be right for you
“Whole home audio,” or “distributed audio” are phrases tossed around a lot when we’re talking about smart homes. But what exactly is whole home audio – and why does it improve the quality and comfort of your home life?
Whole home audio is essentially a sound system installed throughout your entire home. But it’s not the image of music blaring throughout the house a la “Animal House.” (Though you could make that happen, if that’s what you’re looking for!) It’s a unique audio system specified to each room, completely manageable by you.
The systems can include built-in speakers and subwoofers in the ceilings, in the walls, or completely out of sight. You can play music from a variety of sources, from streaming preset playlists to CDs to audio books to vinyl. You control what music plays where with your smart device or keypad. Imagine in your home, your entire family and guests can take advantage of the whole home audio system at the same time, in different ways: one person can listen to an audio book in the kitchen, another group listens to a preset playlist on the back patio, your teenager is in their bedroom with friends listening to a podcast, while you’re upstairs in the den listening to your favorite vinyl album.
The challenge is the huge mountain of smart audio systems out there. Researching and deciding what works best for your family and your preferences can be totally overwhelming and time consuming. And then ensuring the systems work together seamlessly is another hurdle - not to mention the frustration if they don't operate together seamlessly.
At Jackson Hole A/V, we stand by the idea that smart home technology should make your home life easier and more comfortable, not more complicated. With our years of experience with designing, installing, and managing AV systems, we help our clients to choose the system that’s right for their specific needs, then install and help manage the system to make sure it works properly and is easy to use.
Some of our favorite product lines for whole home audio include Savant, Sonos, and Sonance.
Savant – a premier luxury whole home automation platform – allows the home owner to control all the technology in their home from a single, intuitive app. Savant is a worldwide leader in smart home technology, with a long, established history of innovation and top-shelf quality.
Sonos is a wireless whole home audio option that works through your home’s network. The Sonos speakers connect via Wi-Fi, and you control the music via the Sonos app. Sonos speakers can be installed in every room, or just a few rooms, and added to later. It’s a great system to start exploring whole home audio, creating a system that can grow and change over time, with excellent quality speakers.
Sonance is a third option with high-performance, architectural audio. Their longstanding emphasis on aesthetics and design makes them a favorite among high-end luxury homes. Their elite collection – the Sonance Invisible Series – is installed throughout a home, offering high-quality acoustics from invisible sources.
