I’ve told you a hundred times…
On today’s market, there are 100,000 devices supported by digital voice assistants. Seriously.
And then there’s Josh.ai. One of our favorite smart home systems for our clients.
In a recent article for Independent Thinking, Robb Stott describes Josh as “the PhD student sitting in on a high school Algebra 1 class.”
That pretty much sums up why we like it so much. It’s super smart, intuitive, and easy to use. Josh.ai is a smart home platform that can handle complex requests for high-end technology our clients use in their homes – A/V, climate, lighting, security. And it focuses on natural language and the system’s security.
Josh recently published their list of the top-10 most used voice commands of 2020. Rob Stott called it “probably the most accurate top-10 list they could ever hope to produce thanks to all of the extra time we spent at home last year.” It shows how we engage with our digital voice assistants – and it’s pretty fascinating to see.
Here’s the quick list of Josh’s most-used voice commands in 2020:
- OK Josh, Good Night. One simple statement that changes a complex system – lights, shades, climate, sound, security.
- Turn off the TV (closely followed by ‘Turn on the TV’).
- Turn off the Lights (closely followed by ‘Turn on the Lights’).
- Good Morning. Again, another simple statement that makes a lot of things happen. The shades go up, music plays, lights turn on, temperature goes up, coffee starts brewing…
- What Time Is It? No doubt says a lot about a pandemic year…
- Close the Shades (closely followed by Open the Shades).
- Goodbye. Another simple command to make a lot happen – especially in the security department.
- I’m Home. Gets things moving at home again.
- What’s the weather?
- Watch Netflix. No surprise there…
Rob Stott points out that 40% of the list is complex requests. A simple statement: “Hello!” makes a whole lot of stuff happen.
To us, this is what works so well about smart home technology, and why we love working with clients to integrate the best smart home automation platform for them. Smart home tech should not complicate our lives; it should simplify them.
Voice-directed tech is so much more than “What was the World Series score last night?” It’s about controlling and managing our homes to work better for us and our families.
