Mid-summer is a Great Time to Find Your Ideal TV
According to a recent Digital Trends article, now is a great time to start looking for a new TV. The new 2018 models are out, with new innovations and features, and the older models can be found at lower prices. If you’re looking to upgrade your smart home theater for the summer blockbuster season, here are a few helpful terms and models to get you started.
HDR and 4K resolution are par for the course these days in high-end smart TVs.
4K Ultra HD has a pixel resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 grid in a 16:9 aspect ratio, equaling almost 8.3 million pixels. Translated to your screen: amazingly realistic detail. It also means you can view a large screen from a closer distance without seeing any of the pixels.
High Dynamic Range – HDR – means the picture has a wider range of colors, and more detailed shadows and highlights. Whites are brighter, blacks have more depth, and there are more colors to work with. Two HDR formats are currently available: HDR10 and Dolby Vision. HDR10 is standard, Dolby Vision is premium. Digital Trends recommends buying a TV that supports both.
OLED stands for Organic Light-Emitting Diode. Much smaller than standard LEDs, the diodes perform as individual pixels of a display.
Sony offers some of the best TVs out there, according to Digital Trends’ review.
They rate the Sony A8F Bravia OLED TV the best ultra-premium OLED TV for your smart home with its top-rate picture quality, voice control, and smart home integration. One of the coolest features is that the sound radiates from the actual screen, via Sony’s Acoustic Surface tech. The X1 Extreme processor raises the picture to almost-4K HDR quality, with a stunning contrast and absolute blacks for every image.
The Sony X900F 4K LED UHD TV comes in as the best overall LED/LCD TV on the market today for its HDR picture processing. It comes from the factory with HDR10 and with a firmware update coming soon, will update to Dolby Vision. X-tended Dynamic Range PRO 6x technology manages backlight levels for optimal contrast.
